Over half the states in this country have closed primaries, meaning that if you're a registered independent, you are excluded from voting in 50% of the elections. You could be a 98 year old World War II veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy, saved civilization, who registers independent in the land of independence which we're celebrating 250 years of.
