All of that needs to occur in a public forum, be in the courtroom, and then I'm committed to a jury, hopefully a jury from El Paso being the ones to get to announce the sentence on the Walmart shooter. I believe very strongly that that case, a case with the magnitude of the effect that it had to the people of our community, that it should be the community through the jury, that speaks to what that punishment should be, whether it be the death penalty or life in prison. that should be the sentence that comes from the jury. That's my commitment to El Paso. That's my commitment to the victims of this case, and that's what I've been driving for ever since March of 2023. (08:12–08:29)
