Bernie Sanders: “Older Americans living in poverty die nearly nine years…”

Featuring: Bernie Sanders, Independent | U.S. Senate, Vermont

Watch on YouTube

FULL SPEECH: Bernie Sanders in Minnesota: "They have the money, but we have the people"

Published | Video Starts at 16:12

Well, today, roughly one in three older adults, people over 65, are economically insecure with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty rate. And I want you to hear this one to tell you how outrageous our sense of priorities is. Older Americans living in poverty die nearly nine years earlier than their wealthier peers. Got that this. God didn't create this. This is a direct result of government policy. You allow seniors to live in poverty, and some 20% of our seniors in this country are trying to make it on $15,000 or less. (16:12–16:22)

CLAIM
