Secretary Al Schmidt gives election update

Published | Video Starts at 00:37

Although voting by mail has been available in Pennsylvania since the civil war, voters were required to provide an accepted reason or excuse, such as illness, disability, or absence from the municipality. On election Day in 2019, Republican and democratic state legislators passed and Governor Wolff signed act 77 to implement no excuse mail in voting in the commonwealth. It has the same security and safeguard features that absentee ballot voting has always had, including that only registered voters can request a mail ballot and their identity must be verified before their ballot is counted.
