I went to medical school to learn how to heal and realized that our healthcare system was too often part of the problem. So I went into public health. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veteran Services. We thought outside the box about what public health can do. We put glasses on kids faces for free, took on big corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt, put Narcan and vending machines for free. (00:39–00:44)
